Family owned in the valley for over a hundred years.
White House Foods has been family owned in Winchester, Virginia since 1908.
It started with the Armstrong family and one good idea.
In 1908 the Armstrong family organized the National Fruit Product Company and began bottling vinegar for American families. In 1918 the plant opened in Winchester, Virginia, right beside the apple orchards of the Shenandoah Valley, and the company started making apple products close to the source.
Apple sauce, apple butter, and jelly followed, and the White House name became a fixture in pantries across the country. It has stayed a family run business ever since.

A hundred years, one harvest at a time.
A family business begins
The Armstrong family organizes the National Fruit Product Company and begins bottling vinegar in glass for American families, the first products to carry the name.
Roots in the Shenandoah
A plant opens in Winchester, Virginia, beside the local apple orchards, and the family begins making apple products close to the source.
The pantry grows
Apple sauce becomes a signature product in Winchester, and apple butter and jelly join the line through the years of the Great Depression.
A new standard
The family is among the first to raise Clingstone fruit for commercial use on its own orchards, and the White House label is refreshed.
All under one roof
Apple processing is brought together at the Winchester plant for year round operations, with millions invested in new lines.
From one family to another
After nearly a century, ownership passes from the Armstrong family to the Gum family, led by David Gum, a longtime White House employee and farmer himself, who carries on the same values and traditions.
Still growing
The family plants more than 200 new apple trees every year, with products in major retailers across the country.
